Metal element for protection, health and wealthMetal cures are perhaps the most versatile among Feng Shui. They were originally prescribed when malignant energies such as the 5 Yellow and the 2 Black stars decide to take up residence in a key area of your home like your main door or bedroom. While the best course of action would be avoid the affected areas completely, even if it means sleeping in the hallway, sometimes we find ourselves with nowhere else to go. This is where Metal cures come into play, used to weaken the negative energies of these stars that often cause bad luck, ill health, accidents and in very severe cases, even fatal tragedies. Its usefulness has resulted in its fame and proliferation.Metal is one of the Five Elements that make up the Elemental Theory of Feng Shui. The Productive and Destructive Cycle of the Five Element Theory is a key factor in nearly all Feng Shui applications and formulas.
Though initially prescribed as a cure by Xuan Kong (Flying Star) Feng Shui practitioners, the use of Metal has grown. Many practitioners have combined Metal with traditional symbols of protection, such as deities, protective creatures and weapons, to ward off negative influences. The result is a plethora of Feng Shui cures both colorful and creative, placed at various entrances and corners. The reputation of Metal cures was vaulted when practitioners began associating it with precious metals, wealth and fine living. In this application of Metal, gold ranks foremost among metals associated with Wealth, but pewter is close behind and is gaining popularity. While by no means as valuable as gold, pewter has been used to craft implements of high living aristocrats since 2000 years ago. Time has seen to it that pewter is now synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and of course, Wealth. As such, pewter, as well as gold is widely used to improve one’s wealth luck. Also, pewter is the perfect example of the versatility of Metal. In addition to symbolising wealth (without actually costing a bundle), its high quality makes for an excellent cure against the #5 Yellow and #2 Black stars, both of which are Earth stars. As shown above, Metal weakens the energies of Earth. Hence, placing pewter items in a display case in the Southeast (for the year 2003) will not only gain you marvelous décor, but a functional Feng Shui cure as well. The versatility of pewter and other Metal cures seems set to grow, considering that Feng Shui itself is in the process of evolution. Perhaps it won’t be long till we see a new Metal cure application, though one wonders what it could be.
