Mandarin Ducks
The Chinese have always regarded Mandarin Ducks as perfect mates. Called "Yin Yiong", Mandarin Ducks mate for life (as opposed to the Emperors who had a numerous number of concubines). They are also excellent mates, taking perfect care of each other. Never seen apart or without the other tagging along many termed this the "perfect marriage". As such they eventually became the definitive symbol for conjugal bliss. Even today they are still the most potent symbol of everlasting love. Ever tried (unsuccefully?) to float a Mandarin Duck in a bathtub? Well there's a reason they sink. How to avoid sinking your Mandarin Ducks… It's because they weren't made to be placed in a bathroom. Placing a pair of Mandarin Ducks in the bathroom can actually do more damage than you think. They are definitely not the kind of ducks that will accompany you while you're having a nice, warm bubble bath. Even if your Nien Yin (relationship) sector is where your bathroom is, DON'T place a pair of Mandarin Ducks here. You'll either end up arguing with your partner or attract the wrong mate for you. So unless you want to be spending Saturday night with some biker with a "Born to Ride" tattoo, take those Mandarin Ducks out of the bathroom. I visited a friend the other day and his Mandarin Ducks were next to his SHOE RACK!! And he wonders why he has a problem maintaining a long-term relationship. Shoe racks emit strong Yin Chi, some even say Sha Chi depending on how your shoe rack smells. My friend's gone through 7 girlfriends in eight months. But things are beginning to look better for him since he moved his Mandarin Ducks to the Southwest corner recently. Unless you're looking to end a relationship don't place Mandarin Ducks close to any fiery elements. Stove's, fireplaces and heaters are all elements of fire. Said to burn up the love within a relationship. If you guys out there are looking to end things quickly this might be a novel idea. Mandarin Ducks placed next to the fire also signify short-lived relationships. Possibly love at first sight, but later on it might just fizzle out. Not recommended unless you're looking for a fling. Avoid placing your Mandarin Ducks under your bed. It encourages affairs and brings third party conflicts into the relationship. When I started out in Feng Shui, I nearly lost my girlfriend (now my wife) to my best friend when I inadvertently placed these love enhancers under our bed. What to do with these confounded Mandarin Ducks! Since we already know all the problem areas to avoid, here are a couple of ideas that have worked wonders for me. If you're familiar with the concept of your Kua number this is a brilliantly relevant idea. Place your Mandarin Ducks in your Nien Yin (relationship) sector. As a love enhancer these Mandarin Ducks are said to work like a charm. More than a few of my previously single friends can attest to that fact. If you're unsure about your Kua number, use our Kua Number calculator. If you would prefer a more general approach to Feng Shui, use the long trusted Trigrams of the Pa Kua. Kun, the South western Trigram is said to govern the love and relationship sector of any home (or pad if you're a swinging bachelor). A pair of Mandarin Ducks in the Southwest corner is said to jazz up even the dreariest of love lives. If you're young, restless and looking for that fun filled Saturday evening look no further. This sector represents young love and relationships, perfect for the yuppie of today. If you're an older couple, looking to put that spark back into your relationship, a pair of Mandarin Ducks are highly recommended. However, try a Traditional Mandarin Duck pair, as it would suit older couples better. Couples trying for children should try a different approach. Position a pair of these Mandarin Ducks in your room. Preferably in the Southwest corner. A shot in the arm for fertility as the traditional belief goes. A quack quack here and a quack quack there If you've ever tried to shop for a Mandarin Duck the choices alone will bowl you over. Porcelain, wooden, plastic, resin, original, traditional…. The list goes on and on. Here we'll try to clear up a little of the confusion and hopefully give you a few hints on what works best for you. Original Mandarin Ducks were made from wood and sometimes hand carved or painted. Some people have refused to use any other variety than those made from wood. Claiming that they are the best. Useful as a symbol of renewing love; old or otherwise. Couples who are older and wiser prefer these as a sign of everlasting love. Rose Quartz Mandarin Ducks made from semi precious stones are quite the trend among the younger, yuppie set. Said to represent a very virile and fertile sort of love, these Mandarin Ducks are more suitable for the newlyweds. It is said to encourage off spring as well, so many couples trying for children use this. A rarer but nonetheless powerful variety of Mandarin Ducks, made from Green Adventurine has also been prescribed. The stones' qualities, which promote change and a more adventurous sort of love, are also a hit with the newer generation of Feng Shui practitioners. Not recommended unless you're the more carefree sort looking for short-term relationships. Porcelain Mandarin Ducks are more relevant if you use the theory of elements. Made of the earth element, they are said to empower and enhance the Southwest sector. The corner of your home that is said to be governed by the earth element Kun. This can be used by almost anybody as it I applies a more general theory of Feng Shui. Traditional Mandarin Ducks are about the same as your average Mandarin Ducks. However the female is depicted with wings that are prominently held high. This is one that is definitely recommended for the older couple. A less passionate but definitely more loving pair, these Mandarin Ducks are mostly kept in the bedroom and living room.
