Very few people will take the trouble to apply the principles of Feng Shui in the bathroom or toilet. True, it is not rational to spend huge amounts of money on this area of the home because one does not spend much time in the bathroom or toilet. Nevertheless, there are some simple guidelines to follow.

...... The placement of bathrooms and toilets are important because they are where all the cleansing is done. They are the sources of unpleasant odors and disposal of human waste. As mentioned earlier, you do not have to spend lots of money on bathrooms and toilets. The average man spends one third of his life sleeping and two thirds on other daily activities such as working. Unless you have an obsession with self-cleanliness, you will not spend more time than necessary in that area.

The best direction for your bathrooms and toilets is North. The element for North is water and thus is suitable for cleansing and washing. DO NOT choose a house in which the bathroom or toilet is located in the Southeast, East, South or Southwest sections of the house. Southeast represents Wealth and Prosperity, East represents Family and Health, South represents Recognition and Fame and Southwest represents Marriage and Relationships. Having a bathroom or toilet in these areas is like flushing away your good luck, or watching it go down the drain.

...... You should not be able to see your bathroom or toilet as you enter your house. Neither should your bathroom or toilet be face the front door, bedrooms, kitchens or altars. Sharing a wall with any of these rooms is just as bad.

...... In double-storey houses, bathrooms and toilets should not be located on the 2nd floor directly above the main door on the 1st floor or beyond the front wall of the house. Having these rooms in these locations spell disaster to the occupants of the house.

A toilet above the main door of the house is extremely harmful to the occupants.		Place a stone on the toilet lid or hang a wind chime at the window.

...... Keep the toilet seats, covers and toilet doors close at all times. This is especially so if the toilet is facing a bedroom or the door to the bedroom leading to a hall, or other rooms.

...... Use earth tone colors such as yellow and brown in the toilet to minimize the 'shar qi' (killing breath or negative energy). This is in accordance to the principles of the 5 elements. Earth overpowers Water, thus preventing your wealth luck from draining out. Use accessories made from clay, china or porcelain in the bathroom and toilet, and towels with earth colors (yellow, brown, beige, coffee etc).

...... If one of your toilets is located in the Southeast corner of your house, close the lid and place a large stone on the cover to stop it from flushing away the family wealth. If you have a choice, avoid using that particular bathroom. If you have no other bathrooms, hang a wind chime in your bathroom. It is best not to put any plant in the bathroom as the wood element contaminates the 'chi' in it.

...... If your toilet is in the North sector of your house, you can put a wind chime made from porcelain, solid clay or terra cotta in it. This is to stop your business or career from going down the drain.
